Q. Who are Relatus Ltd?

A. We are a taxation practice specialising in Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT).

Q. Why have Relatus contacted me?

A. We have contacted you because we believe based on our initial research that you may have overpaid SDLT on your recent purchase and are entitled to a refund.

Q. Is this a scam?

A. No we are making you aware of valid reliefs which were not claimed at the time your purchased your property. Take a look at our Trust Pilot page to see reviews left by some of our clients.

Q. How do you charge me?

A. If we are advising you after your purchase has completed we act on a No Win No Fee basis so you will only pay us if you receive a refund and our fees will be a percentage of the refund achieved.  If we are advising you prior to your purchase we will act on your behalf for a fixed fee the level of which will depend upon whether we provide an initial assessment of the liability to SDLT only or a full written opinion.

Q. How long will it take to receive a refund?

A. HMRC will issue the refund within approximately 6 weeks of receiving the claim

Q. Why didn’t my solicitor advise me about this?

A. Many Solicitors are unaware of the reliefs and exemptions available and do not consider tax mitigation within the scope of their engagement.

Q. Are you writing to me because I paid the additional 3%?

A. No. If you paid the higher rate of SDLT and it is your private residence you may be entitled to recover the 3% if you sell your previous main residence within 3 years of the purchase.
